I remember that one as the Admiral, but I am sure it must have been some other name before that. This was back in the seventies I think. My 'life in pubs' began (underage of course) around 1966 or 67. In those days it was a bit risky setting foot east of Briggate. And Call Lane was a definite no-go area. 'Mucky Duck' country. Just writing that seems to bring back that the Admiral was at the top of Call Lane on the same block as the Duncan. Memory playing tricks now. I'm sure the one you are curious about had a nautical title. It was not on the same block as the Duncan it was opposite,up sme stairs I think? Yes I know where you mean. My first stab at the name of the pub you are after is the Admiral, but then I thought the corner pub at the top of Call Lane may have been the Admiral. All this typing has brought a beam of light. The corner pub at the top of Call Lane was the Star and Garter!I will go for Admiral opposite the Duncan next to Rawcliffes. Or should that be next to Rawcliffes opposite the Duncan.

It was certainly the Admiral during the 1970's.This is a pick from LEODIS about the area in general...http://www.leodis.net/discovery/discove ... 5_72673977

Sorry, I knew I shouldn't have stuck my nose in. I thought you were looking for an original name. That'll teach me.

Keep yer pecker up. etc "Dock Green", now that's one I do know, used to be Ashley Road bobby-hole. Got took in once as a kid by my mother when it was a police station, was shown the cells and told I would spend the rest of my life in one if I didn't mend my ways and quickly! Thanks for the words of consolation Jogon, much appreciated.
