The following are taken from John Mayhall's 'Annals of Yorkshire':-September 13 1872. “The new street, called Quebec Street, between Wellington Street and King Street, Leeds, was completed and opened to the public”.September 13 1873. “The race for the two miles swimming champion challenge cup took place on the Thames, and was won easily by J. B. Johnson, of Leeds, who also held the cup for the one mile championship”.

JohnnyI wonder whether- dates and - stats will show - an increased yield of - "Leeds good swimmers" linked to provision of - a >centrally< located Olympic Pool? I know many parents gave up when venue relocated 4/5 miles south to Dewsbury Rd Stadium. I was at the john Charles last night and there were loads of kids swimming in a club training session.

The threads of the days are very interesting.One of my cousins was born on Sept 13th but not thesame year as here laugh.Talking about swimming, I was given some old papers from a relative the other week. In them was threeswimming certificates that my late Dad won when hewas at Kirkstall Road School. He won them in 1924. He was 10 years old at the time. All these years andI have only just discovered them it was a surprise to see.
