Infirmary Street was closed to through traffic today because of a large crane that was in use. This photo shows the view looking along Infirmary Street towards City Square. The photo is a bit deceptive as it looks like the work was going on at the Bond Court building but it was further along and seemed to be on the 1 City Square building.

This photo shows the base of the crane. I was not sure if I should have been worried that not all of its wheels were on the ground!

This photo shows that the crane seems to be working on the 1 City Square building.

I'd be more worried of the wheels were on the ground and it rolled away! They are refurbing the upper floors and have been for a while. I used to work in the building until recently and when there was a fire drill about 30 odd guys in florescent vests came out from up there!

It would work equally happily with its wheels on or off the ground or indeed, as I'm guessing from the excellent photos some on the ground and some in the air.Of course all the stability and weight is been spread over the stabaliser arms, the only reason some wheels are on or very close to the ground while others are in the air is the simple mathmatics of getting it level before commencing work. Superb photos by the way Leodian

Superb photos by the way Leodian Cheers for that BIG N. The wire safety fence was a hinderance in trying to get some photos when I had to place my camera to look through the small gaps in the wire mesh. Several photos I took did not come out showing what I thought! The one with this post is an example, as I thought I had got the whole (or at least virtually all) of the crane in view! The view is looking along Infirmary Street towards East Parade.
