Hi guys, I've been a lurker on this forum for a long time. I have always been interested in exploring old buildings and sites. Not until recently I went to the abandoned village in adel. Now, I'm really keen to find places to go, I've been trailing through the threads for ages and the majority of them are quite dated. I dont want to go somewhere having hopes of exploring, when somewhere has been demolished. So, has anybody been anywhere recently in Leeds and if possible please give me some info and location. Be much appreciated

Hi Nexus. This is not really an exploration forum, and not many explorers use it for that purpose, or to post reports like they do on the specific exploration forums. Granted this website does cover hidden and secret places, but it's much more of a wider base of history, and more accessible to a wider general audience. As for asking about access and help with locations, you've broken the golden rule of urbex, you get shot to pieces for that, as you can see mainly in the ''This is not an urban tourist information site'' rule 2 here. http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/mi ... owrulesAll the forums are the same in that respect, Derelict places is one of the friendly ones, others are much more unhelpful than that one regarding location help and advice questions! Not only is talking about access into buildings the quickest way to get them shut down, then there would be nothing to explore for anyone. it also attracts the wrong kind of people like vandals and thieves. Think about it, the people who know where places are, they are the people who have done the research and all the legwork themselves, those people already know where the places are, they have seen them and got them in the bag. They've done considerable work to find out about them and visit them. Why should they go out of their way to go to the trouble of going into detail and effort to help someone else who hasn't made that effort themselves? They're not going to really are they?I only help people who I know are trusted, and it is obvious to me they have put a lot of effort into things in the past, and that's how it is with everyone else too.I know it all looks really unhelpful, but it's how it is, and if your not going to do any research yourself, and just rely on other people helping you, your not going to see any further than your garden shed I'm afraid. I'd check out the local urbex forums if I were you, use the search function, but whatever you do, don't ask for location help lol That said, welcome to Secret Leeds, and good luck with your ventures

Nexus, hello.I'd skulked around, coming across SL usually thru google searches on stuff I was researching out of personal interest.I was actually researching the various Mills and Dams/water power etc of West End / now Thruscross (not really Leeds) when I finally joined up. This threw up some fascinating info. But also showed amazing stuff much closer to home:-Scotland Mill; King's Mills; High Dam etc.I'd suggest you get out of Leeds and find the (now breached - but why?) Aked's Dam. Or from Thruscross trace back the source of the River Washburn?Walking boots and picnic job.And watch out for the Adders

Would watching out for Adders keep someone totally occupied?

There's lots of things listed at the Heritage Open Days website at http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/ that might be interesting. This year it's the 6th - 9th September. Another one is Leeds Light Night (http://lightnightleeds.co.uk/) which is on the 5th October. These may not be traditional Urbex but it's a good way of seeing places that aren't normally open without having to worry about security guards. Last year's Light Night was pretty good: lots going on and having families with kids out gave the place a very different feel to a normal Friday night.

You could be the first to find the Kirkstall Abbey tunnel! No one's done that before.

Nexus_88 its simply a case of opening your eyes and having a look around, depends what interests you I guess, not all urban exploration involves having to access derelict buildings. There are plenty of interesting things to look at all around Leeds if you look beyond the obvious. Industrial heritage throws up lots of interesting areas to explore and research. Like Phil said there are seperate Urbex forums where you can read about other peoples reports and see if there is anything you fancy having a look at yourself. But you might find something right on your own doorstep that nobody else has ever looked at before. I usually just go out on my mountain bike around where I live in North West Leeds - not intending to explore anything, but I see a chimney or something poking out of some trees so I go have a look and take some snaps on my camera phone, then later on do some investigation on the internet to find out what the thing I came across was / is. Anyway good luck and dont do owt daft!

Really your best friend is google search, I'm sure within 5 minutes you'd have a nice list of things worth looking into further

But still, you never know! I tend to walk along the canal a lot so i may as well go and see
