Congratulations to Manchester City on winning the league title on goal difference from Manchester Utd. It's time someone else had a turn. Can older SL-ers remember when Leeds lost the title in similar circumstances to Man U at the end of the 64/65 season?. Leeds only needed to beat Birmingham in the last game but drew 3-3 instead. They then lost to Liverpool in the Cup Final the following Saturday. I was heartbroken.JD

Liverpool Cup Final. A poor game but Billy scored a cracking goal. I paid a fiver for a 7/6 ticket and was at the end where Ian St.John scored his header. Following Leeds in those days had some very high highs and some extremely low lows. I believe that even now the game against Celtic holds the crowd record for a two-leg tie.
Daft I call it - What's for tea Ma?

Didn't go to the final but went to semi replay at Forests City Ground. Billy scored with a header in the last minute, what a player and scorer of important goals. The Celtic semi is still a record crowd for any European event 135,000 in 1970. Q) How do you get a cork back in a champagne bottle.A) Ask a Man U fan:-)

Right then. The Olympics are out of the way and the footie season is almost upon us. How will United fare this time round. New(ish) manager, lots of new signings, optimistic fans. I know we still have Ken Bates to worry about and there has been no "Arab Spring" at Elland Road, but that aside - what can possibly go wrong with the 2012/13 campaign?

Well, start with the 11 overpaid [edited for content] on the pitch, add the many poor [and poorer] deluded souls watching them and take it from there. Ah, yes liits but those criticisms apply to ALL football clubs and I have no interest in the others. I'm only concerned with what the season holds for my home town club. Surely I'm not the only SL member with an interest in them.In the same way I'll be rooting for the Rhinos against Warrington at Wembley in a week or so. JD

JD Sadly as with previous seasons, I don't think they're will be too much to shout about, I hope I'm proved wrong, but we'll see.Anyway, it's not all bad news, I've found this rather nice programme called 'The Leeds United Season 1973-1974' herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIjviFERF3Y&feature=relatedI loved the programme, it was great to see old Leeds, not only at Elland Road, but around the City. The fashion of that era too It's in 5 parts, in full colour, and all of them are on youtube, enjoy
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

The main ingredient to turn the season sour before it has even properly started will be turning out in a white shirt near you soon. Step forward El Hadji Diouf.Hardly a worthy successor to Edwards, Hart, Copping, Charles, Dunn, Charlton, Collins, Bremner, Giles and Paul Madeley.Football is as low now as it has ever been.

Wouldn't it be something to have a United team half as good as the one back then? We can but dream.
