Our older readers may recall Eddie the Eagle Edwards Calgary 1988.A true self-funded amateur.The IOC took umbrage against him, introduced new rules to prevent him and others like taking part.Eddie (Michael Edwards) says:- "they said I was making a mockery of ski jumping, I wasn't taking it seriously, I was getting more attention than the guys who were winning. But the guys winning had no problem as I was bringing new interest to the sport"(7 page interview Summer 2012 'Cycling Active')In 2008 he was invited to Calgary anniversary and in 2010 he was chosen to carry the torch in Vancouver.Here in 2012 he was nominated by a Blind Charity as UK torch bearer but was snubbed.

I must admit, I had no intention of watching the Games at all but found certain events quite compelling, the diving for one. I just don't know how they manage to get all those twists and turns performed in about one and a half seconds!

Well,it's all upon over now.....just the closing ceremony.Time to tune in(10 bells) to BBC2 for the excellent "Glorious 39" with the gorgeous Romola Garai.Seen it before but well worth another look for us culture vultures !
