The main feature of the 'Times Past' section on page 14 of today's (August 4 2012) Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) is about a 25 feet tall waymarker obelisk at the entrance to what was Kirkstall Forge. The obelisk was erected in 1829 and records that London and Edinburg (sic) are both 200 miles away. The interesting article has lots more about the obelisk. If there is an online version I was unable to readily find it.In the conclusion of the article the YEP ask readers to let the YEP know of milestones and waymarkers in Leeds, such as any that has been forgotten or is neglected. I suspect there should be some information in SL.

My friend who is a civil engineer did some work for the company behind the revamping of the forge area were having trouble with that obelisk, as it was listed they were unable to move as part of the works. Caused some issues in planning how the proposed entrance would work apparently.
