Yep, 5 houses. The land is more valuable than the business. That is a shame. I was a regular there mid 70s to early 80s. Used to do a lovely pint of Tetley's mild.

I've been in that area 2 1/2 years and it looked like it had been closed a while when I got there. There was a reunion at the Merry Monk a month or two back, perhaps some kind of anniversary passed this year?

George 1V, I think Blakey is close to the mark at around 10 years closed . My guess would be slightly less at around 8yrs . I know for sure it was alive and kicking in 2001. Cracking pub on Sunday lunch sessions, plenty of rugby boys from the area use to gather. You could buy almost anything in there and I'm not talking about beer. Bigger range than Marks and Sparks at times. An older post on this thread says it was already boarded up in 2007

What's it called these days??? Does anyone have any information about a public house called The Sussex Arms which was in Richmond Hill in East Leeds around 1900.

Quote: Does anyone have any information about a public house called The Sussex Arms which was in Richmond Hill in East Leeds around 1900. I have a little information...The Sussex Arms Inn was apparently situated on the "Far Bank". Other contributors here will doubtless be able to identify which part of the Bank was regarded as "Far".In the mid-19th century, the premises were used by local burgesses (council officials) for meetings - usually celebratory dinners honouring one of their number.Interestingly, the Leeds Mercury records an election bribery scandal in early 1865, in which a voter was paid 4 shillings for casting his vote for a particular candidate in the East Ward. The money was handed-over at the Sussex Arms Inn, being in the constituency. If I find any more information I will post tomorrow.
