Though I suppose they could even be an old ladder-through-the-floor fire escape system seem in buildings of a certain age. Can't solve it, but from close up (top deck of bus passing beneath) the "trapdoors" appear to be solid and without means of opening. They could of course have been painted over several times so no "parting crack" (stop giggling) is evident. They are also somewhat small for any but the slender to pass through. They may have been structural/ constructional features.

You've done real well with that lot Drapsey, you didn't have all the photos up when I last saw the thread, some of those carvings aren't instantly obvious to what city they belong as Si commented. I'm glad to see I remembered that Birmingham was industrial based, It does remind me more of the Everton Toffee men more though. As for the trap door, it being in concrete I doubt very much it is a trap door, certainly it won't be a slab of concrete you can lift up. I would think it was part of the building design with possible extensions in mind. It's possible the construction above is set to take some more columns for added support.

Yes, when those sparks fly out from under his bum he looks like he's sat on a rocket! Anyway I'll say no more on it, because I don't want to divert away from the original topic of Leos!
