The following are reported in John Mayhall's 'Annals of Yorkshire'.Volume 2. July 28 1863. "The Leeds New Corn Exchange was opened for business".Volume 3. July 28 1867. "Sunday. This afternoon the spacious area of the White Cloth Hall Yard, Leeds, was the scene of a very unusual spectacle, a field service been held by the Leeds Volunteer Engineers, presided over by the Bishop of Ripon. This occasion was the last on which the volunteers congregated together at their old drill ground; they having had to find other quarters in consequence of the Cloth Hall being doomed to destruction in order to make room for the extensions of the North Eastern Railway."July 28 1867. "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales consented to become a patron of the National Fine Art Exhibition at Leeds, in conjunction with Her Majesty."
