does anyone know what was there before cockburn was built on gypsy lane? i went for a walk down the track that leads into the woods that runs down the side of the school and the golf course and noticed that it is a cobbled path that runs right down to the little bridge over the stream and there is what looks like an old gatepost and a bit of fence left but thats the only clue left as to what was there. i didnt think about gettin a photo at the time but will get one and load it up as soon as possible cos i need to know what was there!

Had a look at the Old Maps website using the school postcode LS11 5TT.The 1954 map seems to be the most appropriate as Parkside Secondary Modern went up in the late fifties. The cobbled lane went down to Low Parkside Farm but where the school is now is just an open space. Most likely farmers fields, or field as there are no divisions or hedgerows shown. While we're on the subject of Old Maps, does anyone know how come the goalposts have been moved in the magnification stakes? It's been like that a while and it is just not as user friendly as before.Sorry. Bit clueless as to how to post the map up on here so you'll have to take my word for it.

On the earlier maps, the farm is called Parkside Farm rather than Low Parkside Farm.So that's where the school got its name then, although there were other examples of 'Parkside' in the locality. Hunslet RLFC of course played at Parkside and when I was a lad one of the better junior football clubs were Middleton Parkside. This could have had a tenuous association with the school. Paul Madeley went to Parkside and played for Middleton Parkside.Anybody any idea?

I know it's a bit obvious but all these places were at the "side" of the park.Just my own personal take on it but stand open to correction of course !
