Not strictly true, while the umber of managers did increase under labour the number of nurses hit an all time high in 2005.    Nurses still ou tnumber managers and numbers have increased at a greater rate than managers. I have been going to Jimmys for the last thirteen months.I have had two major operations in that time i cant fault the NHS or am i the odd one out?The nurses are rushed of there feet most of the time i think if i need a nurse and she does not come for a while then someone needs her more than i do.We should be greatfull we have the NHS if you lived in the United States you would be paying thousands of dollars for treatment or in some of the poorer places on earth you would be lucky if you had a bed to lie in.Ok the NHS has its faults but for all that i am pleased its there when you need it im shure the good points far outnumber the bad ones.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

When I started working for a living (late 80's), the forerunner of the LTH NHS Trust ran very few 'company' cars and most of what they did have was for essential users - district nurses and the like. The cars were predominantly low spec Ford Fiesta 1.1L's, in white with the logo on the door. Now you go to Jimmy's or the LGI and you can see the staff* car park bulging at the seams with Audis, BMWs and Mercs as far as the eye can see. And people wonder where all the money is going.* -staff as in admin not as in frontline patient care.

Had my usual weekely visit to my local hospital yesterday and I had to smile when I heard the doctor ask the receptionist, "Where are the two nurses I was promised?". The doctor was not amused! You couldn't make it up could you....I had to wait 2 hours for my 10 minute appointment....( I was offered a cup of free water though ).

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, over a number of years, in a number of areas, we have had excellent service and care. No complaints on that one!.

RaveyDavey must be a genius! He can view a staff car park and differentiate between the 'BMWs, Audis and Mercs' owned by admin staff, and those owned by consultants and other medics.I work in the NHS and can testify to much managerial incompetence at all levels, but it's not nearly as well remunerated as many commenters here imagine.

Just to add good news about the NHS.My cousin has had to go to hospital a few times in thelast few years. She too has had to go to the Otley hospital. She has nothing but praise for the staff and her time there. So if you are going to be ill or knocked down by a cartry and do it near Otley. You will be well looked after.
