Leeds lost pubs

The angle of Lincoln Road coming off Cherry Row does however seem to be the same and there is still a telephone pole on the left.

A couple of weeks ago "To Let" signs went up at The Staging Post in Swarcliffe and these have now been joined by "Freehold For Sale" signs, so I guess it's only a matter of time for the sole remaining pub on the estate.

Shame about all these pubs struggling.....writing has been on the wall for a considerable time now.I know there's lots of different theories behind all this.....I firmly believe that one of the main one's has to be the ridiculous price comparison on supermarket product v same product in a public house.It's roughly 3 to 1 in favour of the supermarket.I acknowledge of course other significant causes of the malaise in the industry.....one that has been in existence for centuries,but likely to cease to exist within 10 years ?????

The Crown at the bottom of Tong Road has "To Let" signs up advertising "hot food, restaurant, retail opportunity".

I don't remember it being posted on here, but the Highwood on the Brackenwood estate is open again as the 'New Highwood'

I've not been in since, but I think it was totally gutted and made to have less rooms.

SPLAY=FULL I think there was also a Moulders Arms on Water Lane, Holbeck. Not sure if its the one on cherry row or this one on water lane. I also have ties with Water Lane as one of my relatives owed a Scrapyard on there until the 1970's. Don't know much about it really or how long they were trading from there. Signs up outside the New Inn on Dewsbury Road to say that it is shortly to become a (*) Abu Bakar supermarket.(*) I nearly said 'the' instead of the indefinite article but they are going up in the world. Hence...http://abubakar-supermarkets.com/Look out Tesco!The relevant planning application on the LCC website details that the existing 'two flats over' will be replaced by 'seven flats over'. If permission is granted that is. And by the look of the signs, perhaps it has.Do we really need more supermarkets?
