LS1 wrote: Phil, you have convinced me that the supertram would be a better idea. The trolley bus is a fix but not a solution. I would encourage EVERYONE on here that reads this to sends the link ot the petition to all their friends and contacts in Leeds in their email. This must be stopped. The transport at the moment isn't that bad after all, I think the Tbus will make it worse. Yes you see what I mean Lee when you look into it further and the bigger picture? The Council will obviously dress the whole T.Bus thing up with all the glitz and fancy packaging, they have no option but to do that, seen as it's the only thing they've managed to get funding for in all these years. I think the council T.Bus propaganda is like the Xmas present you couldn't wait for, it looked great on the adverts with sound, action and all the glitz that goes with it, it looked brilliant on the box how they presented it, but once you opened the thing up and set it up on your table, the realisation the thing was pretty c**p slowly hit home The thing is Leeds as a city now can't afford to learn that costly lesson, this isn't a Bad Christmas present, it's a whopping £235 million pound project, and once down the road of T.Bus there is no other option but to stick with it, or abandon it as a one route white elephant.I don't actually think the council, if they have any sense can be convinced T.bus could possibly work either. I was looking more into the Harrogate line going over to light rail. It seems it isn't a new idea at all. In fact the Leeds-Harrogate line has been picked out as the most suitable of any line into Leeds to make light rail. There are several documents, and surveys here highlighting transport around Leeds and the best possible solutions.*A Long Term Vision for Transport in Leeds City Region*http://www.leedscityregion.gov.uk/uploa ... sion.pdf*A Long Term Vision for Transport in Leeds City Region Appendix 4*http://www.leedscityregion.gov.uk/uploa ... on.pdfBoth very interesting to read, and funnily enough they cover all the benefits we have talked about here.Overcrowded trains on the Harrogate line, increase frequency, build more stations along the line, with possible light rail extensions to the Leeds/Bradford airport directly from that line.It talks about the full capacity of Leeds city station too, well if they came in the way I've highlighted across the old Central viaduct, and over the river to a purpose built tram/train interchange, then they take all trains towards Harrogate totally out of the rail station, and the big hold up bottle neck around the West end of the station and the Holbeck triangle area. Harrogate rail would be totally separate to the rest of the rail network, you can Kill two birds with one stone there. They need to act soon as all land is totally free to do this at the moment. Then of course there is the added bonus of having a fully integrated tram/train station, and all the routes towards Armley and up Stanningley Road, and as Cardi said Kirkstall Road is another possible supertram route, as well as the airport line.Think of all the possible line extensions and park and rides out towards Horsforth and the Bradford area by using that line in the future too. Of course these things can't be built at one go, but they are really strong foundations to build on in the future. The beauty of all that is they have a fully segregated route into the City already there, the costs of laying track & overhead must be a fraction of what it would be along busy roads. Non of this is possible with T.Bus at all, and that's why you can't build on it, integrate, or expand apart from make another route along our already existing roads, the big selling point T.Bus will be 'a few hundred yards of segregated track, and it's green, clean transport' WOW! I do feel strongly about this, I think Leeds really deserves a good transport system, and it feels really frustrating watch other people make a mess of things when it can be avoided. I wish I could do good renders, and produce some artist type impression stuff like you see, I'd have it all documented and sent off to anyone I thought might be able to make a difference.

Time I got a cuppa methinks.

MUlling over other possibilites.Bring a line down Otley Road from a park and ride and then down North Lane/Cardigan Road to link with the rail bed as discussed above. This woulf free bus capcity to run buses for headingley to Uni/hosptials/town and beyond for the people who live in Headingley and frequently find their buses and trains full. Not ideal but within the present road layout only alternative unless somethiong goes down the length of Headingley/Woodhouse Lane or Meanwood Road

I was contemplating the East Leeds possibilities mentioned earlier in this thread, and considering how to overcome the problems of terminating at Marsh Lane (really too far from the city centre) or finding a way of dealing with or duplicating the already badly overloaded eastern entry to Leeds City Station. Looking at the maps I remembered the railway connecting Tadcaster, Wetherby, and Harrogate, and most of the alignment is still there. An east to south link at Crimple junction would enable that route to join Phill's Harrogate to Leeds proposition. With appropriate headways and high enough speeds that could be a seriously worthwhile idea.
