It's worth a try      Thanks Phill, but I tried the company which my department uses for forensic recovery of data and even they couldn't recover anything on the backup drive because there had been a severe mechanical failure and corruption of data, so the drive was disposed of. I've come to terms with it now, but it was devastating at the time. The laptop hard drive was wiped and reinstalled, so there's no old data on there either. They were obviously "in role" while going through Headingley - blowing whistles and waving and doing high fives with the crowd!

I had thought about starting a thread like this but held back a little due to my views on the whole Olympics.I cringed when we (London) won the bidding, the French I think ended up laughing their socks off.The cost of touting the flame around this bankrupt country must be horrendous, the MET are I think about 30 in number who all have to be fed and watered and put up overnight(See police budget cuts elsewhere). The WY police helicopter was over Harehills today(how many pounds an hour !)I suppose that all the torch bearers will have their expenses paid. The games themselves are a target for terrorists and a good cover for anyone who wants to bypass border controls.Good luck to the youngsters and their once in a lifetime glimpse of history for they will be paying for it for their lifetimes.Lottery funds for good causes were hijacked to finance the games.Seb Coe and Co. appear to be gold medalists at spending money we do not have.

oh dear Dogduke, I think this website ought to be renamed 'Grumpy Leeds'...! heh heh heh!I am inclined to go along with what you're saying though, for the amount of money this whole thing has cost of what benefit is it to the majority of the population? I dunno, is it something that can be expressed in terms of profits / losses? I'm sure for the people taking part and their families etc this will represent the peak moment of their lives / sporting careers, but for the rest of us... who knows

We could all put hair shirts on and be miserable all the time or we could occasionally celebrate stuff, or sit and wait for the council to do something, belittle them when they don't and criticise them when they do.

How does this torch get about so far and fast? Today it's been in Huddersfield, Halifax, Ilkley and then Leeds. I mean it's actually been displayed around these places which is time consuming e.t.c, We'd be hard pushed getting to these places if we only got off at the bus station and headed off to the next destination straight away. I too find the Olympics to be the most boring set of sports you could possibly group together.I really can't see what the fuss is about in all honesty!

A few of the torch journeys in this country have been on preserved railways, and the torch has also travelled by air, sea, and, on the continent at least, by normal rail service, so I presume there is no policy which says that it must be carried on foot at all times.Perhaps we should be told........

The flame has also been zip wired from the Tyne Bridge and abseiled down Sage Gateshead.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18466223Well, I say 'abseiled', more of a tentative creep:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18466223I'm a bit meh about it all really. But on the other hand, had they not done something like the torch relay, lots of people would have been up in arms about the Games being too London-centric.
