Shame the photo is a little higher up than the air raid post, it's worth posting for the nostalgia and classic bus alone.

Cool pic that!Bus stop Jackson Av/Lidgett Gr, I was probably on that bus.The eroded sandstone wall provides useful nesting sites for bluetits and others.Personal fave tho' is one you did of bus on Roper Gr. Black & white I think ( I keep saving then losing them) and a hazy bright day. Lovely combination back then of mist + coal smoke from fires the smell of which I still love/seldom notice.May tire of me asking but where are the bus picks?

Hi - I have just discovered this site and the Brackenwood discussion. I lived at 15 Larkhill Close from 1963-1966 and before that 16 Lincombe drive. I have fond memories of school at Gledhow and playing in the woods with my sisters and friends. we migrated to Australia in 1966.

Hello chrisdelaDidn't the name over the door used to be 'Gledhow County Primary School' or did I dream that? Do you remember the 1960's buses? Here's a then&now Denton Ave/Roper GroveAnd a proper colour one near "Milligans Off-Licence".    And finally, do you remember THE bench halfway up Little Switzerland?

Hi Jogon,Yes the schools as Gledhow County Primary and we would walk tos chool each day and often stop at the shop opposite the school to buy 'sweet' and licorice root. (No one I know knows what licorice root is but it was a favourite snack). ?Some other memories I have are of the co-op van whcih would maek the rounds I think each Wednesday? We would buy groceries from there - Im not sure how long it offered that service as I know mum would then go to the shop at Brackenwood drive. There was a GP called Dr Stone adn his surgery was not far from the shops and the pub. As I was 11 when I left England the pub was of no interest to me - it would have been of interest now!We would play in the old quarry (I think it was anyway). There were lots of places to hide , nooks caves etc. I rememember mum telling us we werent allowed to go there, we did. Catching newts was so much fun too - I think we went to the woods to do this. There was so much wildlife in those woods - it reminded me of the Lion Witch and the Wardrobe's Narnia on winter time.Ah the buses! Mum would take us to the city on one of those, - I think we would catch it on lidgertt lane not far from Brackenwood drive - Im still trying to work out where. The google maps are great and Ive seen our old house pictured . Im making a trip to Leeds in September to seer cousins and an Aunt that I have not seen since 1966.

Hi ChrisdelaAhh, licorice root. Great taste and it seemed to last for ages when chewing and sucking the taste out of it until there was finally no taste left.

Me too Leo.I could just fancy a stick.[Edit]I've just remembered a couple of things there from mid-to-late 1960's.1. Gledhow Grange View was built mid? 50's before me.2. The bridge over Gledhow Ln was, I think, to connect to the walled / market garden of Gledhow Hall. This was still there as a kid. It had a full length lean-to greenhouse against the wall on it's northern side. There was a bungalow (still there) built in a corner of it, road access from Lidgett Lane http://goo.gl/maps/amHr5There was some sort of a well in the middle with an iron grate, below ground level.Lidgett Hill was subsequently built over this.3. Brackenwood Close was cut into a sloping field late 60's? early 70's?. Before this there was an odd old building at the end where a woman kept chickens below and lived above.
