Tetley's To Close?

I took this photo today (Oct 30 2012) just inside an entry/exit of Tetley's Brewery on Hunslet Road of a sign of what was possibly a vehicle weighing device built into the ground, though if it was I assume it no longer works with the site now being almost wholly demolished (there was a similar sign a few yards further in that would be the other end of the presumed weighing device). I thought it may be of interest as it's a little bit of Tetley's history that may soon get covered over or be destroyed.

I worked for Denison's on Moor Road which became Avery-Denison's. I was only there for about 12 months in 1964 and the production of vehicle weighing machines had stopped sometime before I joined, though I think they still maintained them. Production of testing machines both fabric and metal was the main output. There was an unused foundry at the back of the premises and I think it was referred to as Hunslet Foundry.

Thanks Johnny39 for that interesting information.

Thanks Johnny39 for that interesting information. Thanks Leodian, my pleasure. Just a bit of trivia, it's the only place I worked where they kept an air-rifle for shooting rats and in the summer months the lads grew magnificent tomatoes in those big windows that all engineering shops seemed to have in those days. And the worst job in engineering, as far as I could see - fettling!

It's the weighbridge used to weigh in malt more than anything. The only real antique bit of gear left is the lift in the offices...
