I had a pint of Tetleys in the Stump Cross in Morley last week. Can't say I was impressed. It seemed to lack the depth of taste you usually expect from a cask beer.

The Garden Gate pub in Hunslet is one of the venues open for the Leeds Heritage weekend 8-11 September.Thursday: 1200-2300Friday: 1200-2300Saturday: 1200-2300Sunday: 1200-2100If anyone hasn't yet visited, then now is a good time. Sampling a few pints is recommended, although I'd take any photos you might want before the fifth pint, you just might hold the camera upside down by then The Garden Gate website is herehttp://goodpeopleeats.blogspot.com/2010/08/garden-gate-hunslet-leeds.htmlAs they say, use it, or loose it!

While in the centre of Leeds today (June 1 2012) I decided to go have a look to see what has happened at the Tetley's Brewery site. This photo (taken from the outside at the main entry/exit area) shows some of the partially demolished works. It almost has a war time after bombing raid look to it.

It looks even more depressing from the other side of the site (Crown Point Road).

This photo was taken from the same general area. It shows some interesting looking containers (vats?).I did move round much of the outside of the site but I was unable to mainly take photos because of a green plastic mesh on the inside of the surrounding metal railings. If the mesh had not been there I could have put my camera right up to gaps between the railings and take photos, but as it was the mesh would have spoilt any photos. I did not have the nerve to go into any of the nearby tall buildings to ask if I could go high up, as that would have been a great position for some potentially excellent photos. I hope some of the people in those buildings are taking photos.

One final photo! This is a more general view that I took today. I don't know what the fire engine (on the left) was doing there. The photo shows what great views of the ongoing demolition that workers and occupants of the tall buildings have. I don't know though what their view will be in the future! Sorry about the red post in view but it was awkward enough trying to take the photo and I did not realise just how intrusive that post was!

On page 14 of today's YEP there is a short report (with a photo) by Oliver Cross about the demolition of Tetley's Brewery. It is pure coincidence that I went there today as I was not then aware of the YEP article, honest!

I passed by the site today......very sad to see it nowadays. Will be long remembered....I used to go in the Adelphi Saturday lunchtimes just as the brewery sat am shift lads finished......cracking pint back then.Used to have a few games of pool with some of them before seeking out other very satisfying watering holes(Whip,Ship,Black Lion,Coburg,Wrens) then making my way home with a warm glow 'n a bit of a wobble on ! Will miss the distinctive big red neon Tetley's sign at bottom of Hunslet.
