A lot of the older "Yeadoners" would pronounce it Yeydon. Guiseley confuses a lot of "offcumdens" who think it's Gwisley.

I pronounce Alwoodley as 'All..woodley' but if I had not heard it that way I would say 'Al...woodley'. Oddly therefore that Allerton is normally pronounced as Al...erton' not 'All...erton'. For interest (well to me at least) I've looked up and found "The name Alwoodley is said to be a corruption of 'Aethelwaldley', as it was originally known in the Middle Ages, meaning the woodland clearing (ley), at Aethelwald's farm".

I think the best one in Leeds has to be Knowsthorpe, even the maps don't know if it's Knowsthorpe, Knostropp or Knostrop. And no one seems to really know where it is, or what's there apart from the waterworks. It's a strange place down there, the sky looms large above your head, and you feel like your the last man alive

It's interesting how placenames change over time.

One of the oddest pronunciations I heard was Adel pronounced Hay-del.
