City Square - Tom Courtney and Rodney Bewes walking through and chatting...by the way, the square had its original granite baulistrades in the scene which were removed in the late 60s ...and re-discovered and replaced a few years ago.The Headrow was also used for the scene where billy imagines he is leader of his own country and is taking part in a celebration parade. I've heard a whisper that Billy Liar is set for a limited cinema re-release in August. That has to be worth a visit to the multiplex to see Leeds up on the big screen in all it's 60's splendour, doesn't it?It's showing on the Showcase website as a coming attraction but no specific screenings are listed yet. Must try and remember to keep an eye out for it. I may be wrong, but I thought Billy Liar was filmed in Bradford.

I was wrong: see http://movie-locations.com/movies/b/billyliar.html - most of it was Bradford, but there was a bit in Leeds.

The buildings around Chancellor Court at the University are the apartments where Alex lives. I have also heard that the scenes where the droogs beat up the old tramp in the subway were filmed in the (now closed off) subway just outside the north entrance of the Merrion Centre, though no one has confirmed this. Does anyone know? No, none of it was filmed in Leeds. The externals were mostly filmed in Thamesmead in south-east London, which was (and is) a spectacularly brutal new town. Other scenes off set were filmed around London and Borehamwood. The scene where the tramp is attacked is at Wandsworth Bridge Roundabout in south London. You aren't wrong about Kubrick's unwillingness to travel though - he had a fear of flying which meant that most of his films were made in England, and as he was a near recluse, were generally made at Borehamwood, which is about five miles from where he lived. IMDB has a list of locations here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0066921/locations .

going back to touch of frost, some of the early episodes police station front, they used heidelburg, just off swinnow lane in stanningley. i also saw an episode where he drove down leeds and bradford road, going past the oak pub (which no longer exists) and they once used the toilets in charlie cake park as a scene of a murder. watching fat friends one night, gaynor faye's character was sat in a car in the woodside car park on low lane, the shot was angled so you could see the outside of my house, and my works van. it was on screen for about five minutes, and i was (sad to admit) texting everyone i know, to put it on tv if they weren't already watching.
Get in the tardis. We're off to Manchester 1973

My friends Rottweiler was used for one of the scenes in Frost. You see them trudging through the woods. Soundtrack has dog snarling, dog actually plodding along like a little (ish) lamb.Maybe I should have put this on famous sons thread instead ; )And Russ,, the Heights flats are in Armley. Funnily enough, on Armley Heights

Frost used Hawksworth Primary, shops on parade at Iveson Approach, the Police station in the first series was actually on Burley Road in one of the old Supermarket in Meanwood as it was then for the episode where a Supermarket Boss was held to ransom. The Beiderbecke Trilogy used allsorts including 39 Abbeydale Oval in Kirkstall, which was Jills house in first series, they used the playing fields across from Abbey Grange School for the football match in the first series too and a few children from Hawksworth Primary and Vesper Gate Schools were used in it!!!, the Woodhouse Lane multi storey was used also and Yeadon Town Hall. Those are just a few off the top of my head!!!
Short in arm and long in pocket, been a long time but I am making a re-appearance!!!!
