any present day evidence of any train tracks at Crown Point area at all now?

hi guys. this picture of Central is one of best/most useful for reference i have found so far.http://www.flickr.com/photos/manxphil/4 ... tostream/2 things i can't work out though:i understand most (if not all) of the nearest buildings are gone but where is the river which should be visible?also the wagon lift appears to be side on whereas it should be the other way round in relation to the viaduct in my eyes?hmm can anyone help?

The two lifting towers (you can just seen one on your linked photo) were on the goods only viaduct you can see branching off to the right. One stood on the other side of the viaduct. You can work out which one is still intact if you look at the rough stonework on one side (the part built onto the viaduct)This side was built next to the viaduct, note the rough stonework.You can see how they were hereThe viaduct going straight on was to Central station, the line branching off was goods only, a high and low level affair. I'll mark off where the river is on another photo.

hmm that confuses me more actually cos on there they look like they are both side on and opposite each other whereas here:http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... Y=FULLthey look like the the near one is face on and much closer to the viaduct

Am I right or wrong in thinking the road on the left in manxphil's evocative image is Whitehall Road and that Wellington Street is just out of view on the right?

I don't think you can get a better photo than this, it shows the viaduct during demohttp://tinyurl.com/cx9tl96The tower on the left still survives. I guess they chose to keep that one as the good stonework side faces onto the main road.

The third tower standing at the different angle stood here. It's clear to see if you look at the shape of the viaduct. I think the reason for the three towers and different goods areas was because when Central was built it was a joint station. You can see the joint, and different railway companies marked off on this maphttp://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/lee ... t.htmGreat Northern, North Eastern, London and North Western and Lancashire and Yorkshire. Each carrying their own goods and passengers, yet still sharing the same metals. Confusing business much simplified with the creation of B.R and why so much trackwork and routes were abandoned as well. If I recall the host railway company was prioritised, and the other railway companies suffered delays being held at signals longer. I'm sure Jim might be more knowledgeable about this, although it's well before my time, and his on the railways.
