Not sure about the Majestic being a dance hall, but the Scala in Albion Place had the most magnificent sprung floor in the ballroom and was only "two and a tanner" for a great afternoon session. I'm pretty certain though that the Majestic had a tea room/restaurant, possibly downstairs. Also, I don't know exactly why, but the Majestic and Scala shared very tidy advertising boards all over the City.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I've noticed in information that it is planned to reinstate a number of statues and urns that had been in place at the Majestic since the 1920’s. I wonder if the figures on the terrace below the roof will be brought back?

I've noticed just lately that on the Wellington Street entrance there seems to have been a wall mosaic around the doorway. You can see that it has been buried under various layers of rendering but the work on stripping off the damaged stoneface cladding is revealing tantalising glimpses of it.Wonder if anyone remembers it, I don't ever recall seeing it soe it has been buried for some time.

If so, then I remember the exit to Miss S used to be down a back staircase that wound around a very impressive old cage style lift. Would this have been part of the Scala I wonder? If so, I would love to know if it is still there now.

Hi Caron - If my memory serves me correctly the Scala was on the site of what is now River Island, junction of Albion Place - Lands Lane. It was a cinema/dance hall and when it closed it became a furniture store and I can't for the life of me think of its name even though we bought our first suite there. I think the owner was a big-wig at Leeds United. I think I'm correct in what I say but I'm always open to wiser heads.
