It has an N registration which I have found was used 1 August 1974 – 31 July 1975. I believe those 6000 Atlanteans were new in 1974, I remember that era myself, most confusing for passengers. You still had the old halfcabs with the rear platform until 1976, then there were the Atlanteans that started to replace them from the early 70's, they had a front and middle door, then these front door only buses appeared to confuse things further. I recall a few old folk scratching their head where to get on and off.I also remember these new buses over running the stop many a time, the old drivers used to loading at the rear pulling up in the same spot. Everyone had to run to the front to get on, I remember a few drivers saying sorry as they were not used to 'these new dam things yet' I know which one I'd prefer to catch! Got to be the Miggy 12 for sure !!!!!!

Those were the days, non of this namby pampy Health & Safety nonsense we have in this day and age! If you had an accident it was your own fault for not watching what you were doing. You hadn't had a good night out if you didn't stumble down those stairs and roll straight off the back of the bus! The bus carried on going up the hill and you just brushed yourself off and staggered home...hic!#...

Ha Ha.....yes,you can't beat the old lincoln green LCT's.I remember well alighting and boarding whilst the bus was still in motion.Wouldn't get away with anything approaching that now.It was a "right of passage" taking your life into your own hands ! I remember too that most of these buses had the old "Stardrops" adverts on the front, centre pillar staring at you as you traversed the streets and roads.Never forget them.Funny how you don't somehow isn't it ?

It just felt like something special travelling on the old L.C.T buses when I was a lad. The driver had his own little cockpit, the fact there were two bus employees working as a team. The uniforms were proper smart uniforms, good badges, caps and jackets. I always remember the small screw in light bulbs like you had in the house, the round dome shape at the front of the bus, it had a little hole in it just big enough for a finger, so tempting for a young lad but scary too with all the noises coming from under the bus. I also remember the two small 'lovers seats' at the back of the bus upstairs, it was usually frequented by the roughest lads during the day. I remember this real scary looking teddy boy in blue teddy boy suit, huge brothel creepers and black hair Brylcreemed back, he positively snarled at me as I got up the stairs I daren't look back all the way into town That must be going way back to 1972!!

His fashion sense can't have been much up to date then ! I'd get a tuppeny(2d) from the terminus at top of Dewsbury rd. to go to the bottom of XFlatts Park(attended school in the park)...that was 1966....All on my own too !!!!! Used to go all over on my own as a kid(or with younger siblings).Think we were a lot more "savvy" back then....not so sure now.I caught a purple slug(4) recently to drop me off outside Jimmys(as used to do) when it turned right at Anglers club.Doh !

I've just realised I've remembered that scary teddy boy from 40 years ago!! Blimey..I've found this photo with the 'round thing' and tempting hole to stick your finger in. I believe it's a cover that screws off to top up the gear box and fluid fly wheel? Perhaps Blakey can educate us more. This is the interior of preserved Leeds half cab Leyland Titan PD2/11 Roe 212 UUA212 looking very smart. They weren't like that in their days running days around the City. I used to think they smelt great! P.S Somme 1916, if you recall there was a big Teddy boy revival in the early 70's. Groups like Showaddywaddy and Mud e.t.c. There were also a few Pearly Kings and Queens you saw about town in those days too, oh yes and mustn't forget the streakers too Don't look Ethel! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxXEd2RKjYc

Hi Phill, great picture.Yes of course Mud(bradford),alvin starburst ! etc etc The bus isn't quite the same model as the one with the "Stardrops" adverts on though....there was a slightly wider centre column at the front(just behind the drivers left)...and this bus seems much lighter/airier at the front.Same seats though and that smell....yes,right mixture.....leather,exhaust,smoke,ticket print etc etcThe rear loader bar at the back was the shiniest bit of metal you ever did see. There was a fine art to jumping off with just the right technique to maintain equilibrium until you slowed down to normal walking pace.Happy days......................

This is a longer view of an AEC Regent IIIAnd the back view. And this is a Leyland PD3/5 280.The wider column in the middle being the bus I think you mean?I think the preserved bus photo does look very light and airy as you say. But that's minus the drivers blind being down the muck on the windows, foot scuffed floor and much darker worn upholstery of an everyday working service bus.
