Text on the pavement at the junction of Kirkgate and Briggate.

I have put this photo that shows the text on the pavement at the junction of Kirkgate and Briggate. It will have been put there as part of an project relating to Kirkgate that is funded by Leeds City Council and Yorkshire Forward. I thought it may be of interest before it soon starts to becomes too worn to read. I took the photo today, August 11 2011. unrelated but has anyone seen the advertising thats been done by apparently jetwashing advertising slogans etc into paving slabs? I saw some of it done around the Radisson hotel area in Leeds. You'd have thought it would be illegal, I mean as if there arent enough adverts everywhere else without seeing them on the ground as well...

It does need a permit. It was tried a couple of years ago and there was some sort of wrist slapping involved.

Leo - Never seen that, in town tomoz, where is it?Also, your thread has made me look at my map, and old english/word meanings.http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/content/arti ... ure.shtmlI allus thought Kirk (church) gate (road) went just from circa Duck n Drake to New Market St. Seems to run all way from York Rd/viaduct to Albion St, crossing Briggate.That made me look at Briggate, a word so familiar in these parts it is automatic and without a thought of it's origins Brig (bridge) gate (road). History, seemed dull at school, fascinating now?From childhood if a place was busy the comment from all was, and still is "Ee, it's like Briggate". A much coarser mention was in disbelief, etc:- " If that's true, I'll bare my A**e in Briggate!".

You may be interested in this thread of mine http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... 3Regarding the wording on the pavement it is on Kirgate near where that meets Briggate (unless the wording has already been worn away!).
