Radio Leeds mentioned an open day at Dewsbury Bus Museum this weekend. Star of the show is a South Yorkshire Motors (as in Pontefract) bus from 1948.http://www.dewsburybusmuseum.co.uk/#/op ... 06407Might be of interest to some.

Serves to mke the point that what we write can inadvertantly lead to misunderstandings - at least this is only a friendly banta.Perhaps Big N might clarify what he intended us to think by what he said - I'm always open to being corrected

I hope that Blakey didn't think that West Yorkshire had any AEC Regents, though LCT had them, WYRCC mainly went for Bristols. I think it's a confusion with ye olde MetroBus as was.

TWY 8 started life as an Albion single decker coach but was rebodied by Roe as the double decker we see today at the same time as two near identical bodies were fitted to a pair of brand new Leyland PD2 double deckers TWY 6 and 7. The Albion is in first class order considering that it has been in preservation for around forty years - it is additionally interesting in being of lowbridge design with the infamous "head cracking" offside sunken gangway and all the upper saloon seats in rows of three and four on the nearside.

Fear not Riponian on that score, although as a "36" patron you may be amazed to hear that West Yorkshire DID have some Mark 1 AEC Regents, on loan at least. During WW2 several London Transport "ST" class petrol engined Regents were loaned to West Yorkshire and were used regularly on the 36 Leeds to Harrogate and on 34 Leeds - Otley - Ilkley. Later, in York, three more but this time on loan from Brighton Hove and District were operated, nominally to cover for prewar Bristols away for rebodying at Eastern Coachworks in Lowestoft.Oh and your bonus for ten !! - West Yorkshire also had ten Mark 5 Regents when they took Ledgard's over - these became of course DAW 1 - 10

These buses probably weren't in service when you were a driver, but maybe my dad drove one in the early 1950s. Did West Yorkshire have any of the AEC Regents No geoffb - I actually just missed the Mark 1 Regents, but your Dad may well have driven them. The majority were withdrawn by 1949/50 but still a considerable number survived into the early/mid 1950s - reprieved to an extent by the tramway replacements. I have though driven a heck of a lot of the Mark 3s, both at Ledgard's and at Leeds City Transport. The Mark 3s were closely derived from their prewar forbears, main difference in general being that they had improved air operated brakes and preselector gears.
