He's a bit small to take a good look at Jogon. It looks as if he's in someone's garden and they look to be garages behind. You seem to be around Alwoodley, Adel and Golden acre park quite a bit too. Going on your posts and recollections of the area I seem to think you live or where born in that LS17 area, and 5 miles out of the centre and leafy suburb clue makes me think it's out that way? How are we doing?

Any chance of a bigger photo of your colour shot Jogon. There is hardly any clues to go on at all. I can't make out if their a row of garages or not.

Jogon wrote: No grew up there, now Lawnswood.I'm told "..it was removed from old Royal Exchange Building corner of Park Row, Boar Ln in 1920's ".Ended up in a garden and scared the bejazus out of passing 1967 kids/cubs (there's a clue!). I believe this is Sebastian Cabot, explorer, holding a globe. From Mrs C's PAF records -'Throp is mentioned in "A description of the Royal Exchange in Leeds circa 1872" by H. H. Sales. The Royal Exchange was built over the period 1872-1875. Also in page 64 of "Leeds Commercial and Exchange Buildings" of the Thoresby Society, Volume 52, records John Throp and Son of Leeds as the stone carvers of the Royal Exchange building; it also notes that there were life size statues on the front of the Royal Exchange, one of Sir Walter Raleigh with his "History of the World", another of Christopher Columbus with a sextant and a third of Sir Thomas Gresham with the Charter of the Royal Echange in London of which he was the founder. Above Greshams head was the carving - "West bar." The book "Images of Leeds has a photo of City Square with the Royal Echange in the background, as does the "Illustrated history of Leeds" which has a 1910 picture of City Square and a line drawing of the Royal Exchange where you can almost see the statues. "Memories of Leeds" has a photo of City Square in 1930 again showing the Royal Exchange. There is a photo of Sir Thomas Gresham's statue in situe, but not sure where this copy came from; and a further photocoy showing Sir Walter Raleigh above the Royal Exchange Restaurant on City Square. The three lifesize statues were taken down intact when the building was demolished in 1964. There may have been a fourth statue - that of Sebastian Cabot(?) which in a 1925 article in the Yorkshire Evening Post is noted as having been removed at "the time when the alterations to the front were made."In which case it was carved by my Gt, Gt Grandfather. Beejazus indeed sir!!!A number of the other statues are housed in the Mason's workshop at Home Farm Templemewsam, example attached (picture - not a statue!). click the cross.
