Just been reading a response comment on Leodis which states that when the Dock Green opened in the former cop shop it was opened by PC George Dixon himself, Jack Warner. So, was the pub named after the TV series? Or was Jack Warner invited because it had been named the Dock Green for some other reason? Anyone got a date it opened? Sixties seems about right.

It opened on the 14th May 1965 and was the last Beer House license granted in Leeds [although not the last in operation], the first manager being Tom Seel , who came from the Hark to Rover at Spen Lane. It was granted a full license in January 1966.

I never knew that assumed it was an original brewery-built pub. Looks good.At closing time the Manager would say to young villians who still had a pint "..Hand it over son.."

Does anybody remember the Dock Green having a Wimpy Bar next door?Seemingly, when the plans were submitted to the Licensing Justices, part of the premises were set out as a Wimpey. A condition of the final grant of the license was that the Wimpey should either be excluded or that a separate entrance be provided to it and that it was not accessible directly from the pub.

Maybe Camerons decided that the beer side of the business was more worthwhile than burgers and dropped the Wimpy plan.
