Bob, I've looked everywhere for the photo you describe, but the only ones I have of those days are the ones Bert has just posted - I emailed those to him when he first popped up on this thread. I might be moving house soon so if anything shows up I'll let you know. All the best,Homer
That,s ok Dave, I really appreciate your trying. I hope you enjoy your photo. It seems like two minutes since we were sat on stage knocking out the rythm section.---and Bert, thanks for the photo,s, brings back memories. We are also trying to move house but the market is bad. 38 years in Joburg is enough for anybody, especially how things are. We have a house in the Western Cape where we want to end up but got to sell here first. Miss England a bit. The end paragraph of an essay by Hazlitt, which I read recently seems apt.The essay is called 'Ongoing a journey'. 'I should on this account like well enough to spend the whole of my life in travelling abroad, if I could anywhere borrow another life to spend afterwards at home'. Keep in touch.
Everyone who appreciates the New Orleans style of the Ed O'Donnell Band will be pleased to hear that they are playing on Sun. March 15 at the New Headingley Club, 56 St Michael's Rd Headingley (turning off Otley Rd between St Michael's Church and The Skyrack pub)-if well supported there will be more to come. If you were at the recent Corner House Club evening you'll know that Ed, who has just celebtated his 85th birthday, blows as well as ever-this will be another great night so come and enjoy. The band starts at 9.00 in the club's function room, access from the side entrance.Don't miss it-it's The Only Game in Town!
Only wish I could be there, he truly is an inspiration. Please, anyone, give him my belated birthday greetings and wish him all the best from Bob Richardson here in Johannesburg. Hopefully he may remember me.
I've been asked to add that there will be a small admission charge for Ed's band-about the price of a pint so well worth it-this is just to cover band expenses.
The rugby club is a different place though Ed's band did play there some years ago-New Headingley was British Legion, it is on St Michaels Rd, turn off between St Michaels Church and Skyrack pub .
