Wellington Station, entrance help?

Phill, I'm confused by the dates here.On your post with the 4 photos, the bottom photo shows the ladies toilets dated 1895, but on your earlier post, with the photo showing the fairly early stages of construction, it says the construction of City Square was in 1897, official opening 1903.I wouldn't have thought it was remotely feasible that the fully constructed toilets could have been completed before the overground photo was taken in 1897, also, the ladies toilets appear to have leaded roof lights which I can't see anywhere on the surface pictures of the Square.I guess what I'm asking is, was there a square before City Square in the same location, and is that where the toilets where, to be replaced by new toilets? And if so, what was the square called before it was City Square?

Yes your right Bruno! Some discrepancy going on isn't there? The dates are only copied and pasted from the Leodis website. Will have to look into this a bit better. Yes it would be good to take a look under there, one day perhaps! I certainly keep my eyes open for any construction work excavations when I know something is under them, never say never

I seem to recall that when they were remodelling City Square approx 13 years ago, as I went past on the bus you could see the old toilet entrance on the Infirmary Street side but it looked to be full of rubble so I think they were infilled, but there were still some of the old white tiles to be seen.The one I was able see is the entrance at the bottom of the pic

The second photo posted by Phill on page 1 shows what I think is the Cenotaph that was originally erected in City Square in 1922. The photo posted by buffaloskinner at the bottom of page 1 also shows what may be the Cenotaph just in from the centre of the right edge. The Cenotaph is now in Victoria Gardens on The Headrow. I have though not been able to readily find when the Cenotaph was moved to its present location and would be grateful if someone could please let me know.

I know that the Cenotaph cost £5,000 and was unveiled on October, 14 1922 and I believe it was moved prior to 1939 due to road widening and congestion in the Square.
