My local bus route has used Alexander Dennis Enviro 400's for a while. When new, they were very smooth and very, very quick off the mark. Now, after about a year, the ae not so quick off the mark and when the engine kicks in it's like slamming it from third into first. I learned my lesson and now wait until after the big lurch before going upstairs!

All in colour too Thanks for that link Phill. There are loads of great photos there. One thing about such photos is that things are often coincidentally seen in them. For example the 1969 image of the bus at the Corn Exchange shows the building in the rear just on New York Street having a tower-like object that as far as I'm aware is not there now, so I wonder when it was removed? This is the photo in question with the towerhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/david_christie/52 ... 171284/And yes it appears to be no more these days. I'm just looking on Street view and the aerial image to see what happened to it. http://g.co/maps/x4k22Am I right in think there was once a fire in that building too?

You can see where it was on this aerial imagehttp://binged.it/wUOwVHI'm guessing there was considerable damage to those roofs during the market fire, I assume it was dangerous and was taken down.

Thanks for your help Phill, which is appreciated.I don't claim to be an observant person but when I saw the photo I immediately thought that I did not recall seeing what would be such an obvious structure if it was currently there. There's hope for me yet!

Just looked at the aerial image, after the fire the roofs lower down were damaged, but our part with the tower on looks ok. I think the tower is still visible on this 1975 shot too? I do seem to recall a fire in one of those buildings though, can anyone else recall anything?

I tried searching the Leeds council planning site to see if there was a planning application to remove the tower but I couldn't find one. What I did find was this (thankfully withdrawn) application from 1986 to knock down all the buildings on that side of the road for future redevelopment: https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/onlin ... 86Possibly the tower was removed about the same time?

Never noticed that the outdoor stalls are, sort of, colour co-ordinated (Yellow, Blue and Red). Anyone know why? Or is there no reason?
