There are many reasons why Leeds was not bombed. 1. It had no strategic value to the Germans what so ever. 2 the Luftwaffe could not reach Leeds, only if they launched an attack from Norway but they would risk the small bomber force in Norway on such a insignificant city. Also Hitler would not want Leeds as the capital of England. He considered northerners as brutes and wouldn't risk putting a northern city as the capital. This was proved as British regiments were named after counties. Particularly the Dukes who was famed for recruiting in the home county. On top of this as mentioned before Leeds has no strategic value what so ever. It has no port, minor airfields, no industry and very poor air defence. Hitler may have wanted Leeds to be the headquarters of the north but certainly not to be the capital of England. London was much better suited and still is hence why London became the capital...

Sorry, I'm busy, genuine questions. would genuinely like more info as to the location of Luftwaffe bases and their raids on the north of England including Liverpool and Manchester. Leeds used to have quite a lot of engineering is there a reason why this was not considered important? Thanks in advance.

Relatives in Liverpool at that time maintained that Dublin used to helpfully leave the city lights on as an aid to German Bombers heading for Liverpool.

I don't quite care for your sarcasm I don't see that I'm afraid - I suspect Cardi was simply dipping into the site and gave a quick response as many do when time is short. Give Cardie the benefit of the doubt, he is a worthy contributor and will have been genuine in his interest and request.

They did indeed, at the AVRO factory. My mother worked there during WWII and her job was to rivet the bomb doors. If you're interested, there's a thread full of information about Yeadon and the Lancasters, here:http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... ighLight=1
