I would think it's always best to leave threads open, no matter how dead you may think they are at the time. I've seen numerous threads pop back to life 2-3 years later, initially they might not have being very interesting, but the info the new poster has added starts a great thread off. Any info on S.L is cached in the search engines, and there is always people looking for information on Leeds history, if they come across a closed thread they'd not be able to add what could be valuable info in the future. The threads wouldn't clog up the Secret Leeds disk space really. Anyone wanting to add info to a closed thread would have to start a new one, and duplicate threads would only take up more disk space, and make the site less user friendly. The threads, if they are truly dead would just steadily drop away down the list and away to oblivion languishing at the very back of the topic list, there they really wouldn't matter if they were closed or open i.m.o

I agree with everything you've said above, Phill - new posters come with a wealth of information and personal memories and can often add unexpected twists to something we thought we'd discussed to death! An example of an old thread providing useful information happened only yesterday. A friend of mine is reading the biography of Charles Dickens and found a mention of his visit to Leeds, so he Googled this and one of the results was this thread:http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... ID=2936The link in that thread is worth a read - Dickens wasn't very impressed with what Leeds had to offer!

Now it's content is definitely moved, I'll go further and delete it to keep future info together in one place.Other than that, I posted earlier that I agree with others about leaving threads open - very few need locking (as distinct to closing) and the inappropriate and irrelevant ones are usually deleted within policy when they arise (infrequent).

Hello folks. I've had a look into this and to be honest I'm as baffled as you guys. What I have discovered is that if you mark a thread as done (which is quite easy to do by accident, as I just discovered by doing it to this thread... oh the irony) the only way to reverse that is by posting a new message on the thread. You can't 'untick' the done box. Will keep you posted if I find out anything more!
