On http://www.dropkickbooks.co.uk is a list of Leeds and District League Honours from the 1968/69 season. In the short article I have mentioned Graham Idle and Les Dyl, whose names appear in the list of players receiving County Badges. Does anybody know what happened to the other players in the list?

"On the 29th of August 1895, in the George Hotel in Huddersfield, 21 representatives of Clubs from Yorkshire and Lancashire met to form what is now the Rugby League. There should have been another two persons present, i.e. representing MORLEY RFC, but since travel in those days could only be done by train, and was considered a long journey, our two notable gentlemen decided to fortify themselves in readiness for their arduous trip. This they did by calling at several hostelries on route to the station, needless to say they missed their train, and the rest as they say ......is history"This apparently is a myth. One Leeds based player I played with at Morley was Bill Blunden - he was a car mechanic. This was in the sixties and he captained Morley A and Extra A from scrum half - the next time I saw him he was running the line in pro RL on TV in the eighties.

Billy Blunden refereed me a number of times in the 70s. I chatted to him last year at Batley RLFC where he often acts as timekeeper.

There is a poignant article on page 12 of today's Yorkshire Evening Post. The article is headed 'Rugby club war fallen to be honoured' and concerns the "Dozens of players" from the Yarnbury Rugby Club who "signed up to fight in the trenches of Europe in the First World War" and of which "14 never returned home". The article has some photos.

There will be copies at Philip Howard Books on Street Lane and it can also be obtained from the distributor ypdbooks.com

Hi,I'm putting together a surprise family history book for my dad, and I wondered if anyone here played for Headingley in the 1970s. I think my dad, Derek Bulmer, played for the 3rd team (and drank a lot of beer). If anyone has any memories, or even better some photos, I would be very grateful.Thank you!Kath
