No amount of optical illusion can cause that effect, clearly the two buses cannot be pictured on the same stretch of road surely?         If you look on my dodgy screenshot, then at the screenshot in question you might, as I am tending to do, imagine that the "Lamp post" on the corner nearest camera is actaully the traffic light on the corner of Moor Road and Dewsbury Road, then look at the immediate left edge, you can see a lamp standard really close to the left edge, there is one in the same place on my screenshot. There is also a roadsign on my screenshot that corresponds with what looks like a short lampost. I understand that we would expect the library to be seen on the immediate right and thats irking me. I'm down there tomorrow, gonna take me a look.

I'm convinced it's somewhere else but You cannot square it with Your map. So unless the cameraman Himself turns up with an answer I guess we'll never know.     I have already pointed out that Moor Road isn't quite a Cross Roads with Hunslet Hall Road as the Moor Road exit was (still is?) level with the stop line on Dewsbury Road for the lights. The library buidling doesn't extend massively up Desbury Road and the slight diagonal view of the photo means that theforeground on the right edge is up to 100 yards further up Dewsbury Road. It looks like the kerb curves away from the front bus and there may even be give way markings would this be the cobbled road that used to pass up the side of the library? Also look at the lamposts on the right. The front bus appears to be just past one. The "red bus" appears to be just short of the next. There are at least 2 more visible behind that bus before the housing, the 2nd being just beyond the pedestrian light. At 50 yards apart this means we are looking at at around 300 yards between the photographer and the traffic light. Google earth says ist about 350

The lamposts there now are not the ones in the old still as a walk up the road will bare out.The reason for the kerb rounding is at that time the entrances to the streets that ran off Dewsbury Rd although long demolished were still visible as were some of the old shop entrances. The grass bank there was further back than is now. I have taken a shot from where Billy thinks it is and have stood further forward than the original and taken it diagonally but sorry the library is there and oddly enough I can see the ceiling inside the bus but no doubt there will be a valid reason for that.I will work out how to post pics then take it from thereKango

Here's the Moor Road/Dewsbury Road Jnct option. Whichever way you want to describe, I'm not sure why the road either narrows, or the path widens for no apparent reason on the bus film clip if this was the location. Here is the 1968 map showing all the buildings and boundary wall of St Peters church to be in line. That is clear to see on today's Google street view too. The rows of houses on the opposite side of the road also run Parallel with Dewsbury Road, they don't seem to match with the angle of the houses visible on the film clip (what's left of them)You can date that film clip to the 1974-76 time period. The Bus carries the early Metro livery of the low green body side, and three lined green stripes above the drivers window. That livery was phased out by 1976 being considered too time consuming to do. Why would they narrow the road, or widen the path past the Church as would have to be the case if this was the location? And the 1981 map shows everything to be in line, certainly there looks no reason to have a pinch point in the road.
