Could it be more of an optical illusion. The sheltered(?) housing just up past moor road is built on the site of St Peter's Church and the Churchyard. Is it possible the foliage is from a tree left over from the churchyard putting the photographer even further back than we thought. When did St Peters disappear? As I can remember it, it was surely still there in the early 70's.

Nice one Phill, the pics a lot clearer. I can see now that it's not a post box but a person in red stood chatting to another, the black lab sat with it's owner. Tykeboys got it right I think. I've just been down Dewsbury Road this afternoon and weighed the picture up. I.m certain that this cine film was either shot from the corner of Envoy Street / Dewsbury Rd or Moor Road / Dewsbury road. On the corner of Envoy Strret there is a second hand car lot where the tree seems to be, it's possible that 30 plus years ago there may have been a tree in that location. Also, the Lindens look fairly near in the screenshot pic but a long way on Google earth image, it's only 250 yards between Envoy Street and Linden Grove and 440 yards from Moor Road. The next kerb down from Envoy street would be Moor Road and then the tree would be in the church (now gone) yard. You can make out the pelican crossing in the pic that would correspond with the one there today BUT that would make what seems like a bus stop in the wrong place if it was Envoy Street, if it was Moor Road the bus stops would look correct. It's the depth of field that is confusing things. I'm now tempted to go for Moor Road with camermans back to The good old Junction and believe the lens / aperture etc. gives the impression of everything being closer together.

I'm not actually convinced it's Dewsbury Road at all to be honest.
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

Hi Phill, if you watch the video on youtube there is a scene showing a jam butty pulling off the wasteground in front of the old copshop, the camera being near enough in the same position as in the screenshot, give or take 10 yards. . I've also noticed there appears to be two bus stops, if my memory serves me right, Leeds buses stopped at one and West Riding etc stopped at the other, they were moved 100yards further up when the sheltered housing was built, so that fits in too. It looks more convincing with the naked eye. I'm gonna try and duplicate next time I'm there with my cam.

That could be Middleton woods.

I really can't place this bus shot with the cop car scene. It doesn't look at all right to me, and no matter how many times I watch the clip, or look at the photo it appears to be going up a significant incline to me. The whole atmosphere of the shot seems to say Harehills Lane/Roundhay Road area, perhaps Kirkstall, but that wouldn't tie in with the Hunslet theme of the film. It's not guaranteed to all have been filmed in Hunslet though.

There are a couple of other reasons that still sow a seed of doubt on Dewsbury Road though, one, I would have thought that the end of the old library / copshop would have been in view on the right, and two, the large building on the right skyline with the chimney, unless this is the old Conny club building. I dont remember it even though I lived in Greenmount Terrace and walked down the ginnel behind it on my way to Cockburn. But that is 40 odd years ago so I might not remeber. I'm still giving the edge to Moor Road though.

A little too late for the Conny club but this Leodis image from circa 1980 shows the Moor Road kerb to be well past the stop line for the Hunslet Hall Road/Dewsbury Road lights. It shortens the libraryEdit to add Leodis Page toohttp://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIde ... 028_167724

D=&PUBID=0 Good find Tyke Bhoy, if you look closely you can see scaffolding and building work going on immediatelay in front of the club, I seem to think (but not certain, I'm gettin old) there was another building at 90 degrees to the left of the club in the pic, accessed in the same yard. Perhaps it had just been demolished when this pic was taken, 1979. The old cinefilm was from before 79 so that ties in if it is so.
