First of all apologies to any lady members for my original post possibly being a litle "sexist". Unintentional and won't happen again. Secondly thank you all fortaking the time to have a look and thank you for your suggestions. It does appear to be where Kango has indicated, much to my wifes delight as thats where she first said she thought it was and I said not!!!The photographer must have been stood on the corner of Burton Avenue and Dewsbury Road, looking up towards the Lindens. The film is on youtube and is called "Truants Trail - A 1970's Hunslet Boys Club Film, Part 1" There are several Hunslet Boys Club videos to watch with links on the same page as above, many scenes shot outside with interesting images etc.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MYbHdlB ... relmfuOnce again thank you and problem solved - I love this site.

Which particular film was it ,any chance of a link? EDIT found the film "Truants trail"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MYbHdlB ... relmfuTime mark 12:59 for the scene the still is from.     Hi Kango The only problem i have is, the road is on a downward slope were the Green Man stood Dewsbury Road is level or slightly uphill or am i wrong? If has you say the spoil is were the Green Man stood then to me it does not add up.

Hi old Buddy.I said ROUGHLY near the Green man just as a point of reference for older Guys/Gals who knew what once was, rather than say the New Inn for those who only know what's there now. The Green Man would indeed be a bit further down towards the library/police station which also appears in the film, also the spoil area at that time came down a lot further than is shown and part of the pubs floor at the entrance was still visible for a short time until the boundary was slightly extended and a large chain link fence erected to stop footballs being kicked onto Dewsbury Rd.    EDIT I would give a date of around 1972-4 for the film looking at that particular shot, and the location as Billy says the corner of Burton Avenue and Dewsbury Road

A couple of things to note in this pic...If you look at the left edge you can see what looks like a black labrador sat in front of a red post box, this would tie in with the post box ( I think it's a more modern one now but still in same place) that is still there outside the old Waterloo? post office. Also, if you stand back away from your screen, the road seems to be level, it's only when you are sat close to the screen that it looks downhill. It's also possible that the depth of field used in the camera brings everything closer.BUT! a problem I have with this location is there appears to be foliage hanging down in the top left, is it damage to the film? if it's a tree the that blows Burton Avenue junction out of the equation as I don't think there was ever a tree there.Puzzled?

Could the photo be an optical illusion. I'm pretty certain that that is Dewsbury Road looking up towards Tunstall Road from almost adjacent to a second hand car show room near Burton Road. The wasteland on the right is where West Leeds Liberal(?) Club stood in a sort of compound area. It may be that it was the building to the right of the bus.http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=dewsbur ... 95.37,,0,0

Apologies to Kango and Billy who had reached the same conclusion even if it was Mrs Britvic. The hoardings to the right were also part of the "funnel" into the club compound but the photo has to be an optical illusion as at it looks to be downhill but at best Dewsbury Road is/was flat at this stage and is more uphill than flat (I should know I've pedalled bikes up that stretch often enough)

It was filmed after September 1974 anyway, the bus featured is one of the 6000 one door Atlantean's new to the City at that date.

Hi Kango and BillyBritvic After a bit of a ponder im with you both. They say the camera never lies but in this case it can distort the view.ps Since digital the camera can lie and often does.

Here's a retouched edited shot, I've compressed it smaller for a bit more clarity.
