The ABC cinema on Vicar Lane closed in 2000 and the site was demolished some years back. It has been boarded off and derelict since, apart from the addition of the fake brick like covered structure which I've never seen the point of. The area has been very overgrown for a long while and I had been intending to take photos, which I was hoping to do today. Unless you can get to a high viewing point on the building next to it the site seems however to be impossible to take anything more than a photo of tiny bits through gaps in the boarding. What I could see though was that the plant growth has been cut back very recently (it seemed to be still overgrown from what I've recently seen from the top deck of double decker buses). I wonder if this may be a sign that the site has had some visual improvement before a possible sale and redevelopment, perhaps related to the Eastgate/Harewood project?

Vague memory of that Cardie, certainly I recall that its eredtion required planning consent which was renewed a while ago. Didn't they 'clad' the building at the inner end of Wellington/Aire STreet in the same way?

In the car park behind the structure (or possibly its front!) the structure is currently at least being used as an advertisement board, as seen in this photo that I took today (January 25 2012). I hope I'm not breaking any legal rules in showing the number plates of the parked cars.

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Cheers Blakey. It's always a concern nowadays when taking photos that there may be some privacy rule that could cause problems.
