Some time in the very early 80's, after a majo refub and a take-over by Mansfield's, it reopened as the Lion & Lamb. I had a niggling thought that The Seacroft used to have a fair size concert/function room. I've dug out a list of gigs I went to in those days (I kept a record of all of them, however insignificant). I can therefore confirm that the pub was still known as the Seacroft Hotel when I was there to see that famous band 'Blossom at the Reins'. I can't make out the exact date on my document due to fading, but I can say with certainty that it was between March and July 1982. We can narrow it down then to between then and August 86 [which was when I left Leeds].

She stayed there for several years despite a constant campaign of vandalism, arson attacks and threats against her intended to drive her out. I'm sure someone on here with know-how on searching the YEP archives will be able to find something about that. Yes I remember reading about her in the Evening Post - she would have been running it in the early years of the new millenium. She was a scouser if I remember correctly and some tough bird as the campaign of intimidation (after she banned all the known troublemakers) was pretty non-stop. Things coming through the windows - the lot! However she eventually won and made it into a decent boozer only for the owners (IIRC) to sell it from underneath her after all that hard work!

Hey, the YEP site isn't as difficult as I anticipated, I found these articles on there within seconds;http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... _1_2142738
The older I get, the better I was.

Passing by the long disused (and I believe fire damaged inside) Pointer pub today (Oct 7 2011) I noticed that there was some activity going on. Some signs for a letting agency had either being taken down or were about to be put up. That would suggest that there is something at last being planned for the site. I have put a photo that I took today that shows the parade of buildings (some still in-use) that the Pointer is at the end of on Sheepscar Street North.

This photo (taken today, Oct 7 2011) shows a pub sign and an ornate metal gate at the side of the disused Pointer pub. It may bring back memories to those who drank at the Pointer (I never did have a drink there).

The somewhat out of the way area must have little passing trade. I suppose if they are specialised shops they might survive, like the nearby Private Shop which seems to have been there for ages so seems to be surviving despite its out of the way position (or perhaps it survives because of that in view of what it sells judged by its window display!).

Any hope that the Dutton's might ever reopen has gone.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.
