They have a big framed picture in the main entrance of that 1890's leodis picture, the people who live there are very nice and seem to be clued up of its history. So although apartments now its been altered very well retaining most of its original features. Thanks Leedsrich. Any idea when it closed as a hotel?

I took this photo today (Oct 4 2011) in Rockley Hall Yard that runs off The Headrow. It shows the Nags Head name in stone and is at what would have been the rear of that pub (I never went in that so I don't know if it had an outside area in Rockley Hall Yard but its main entrance was on Vicar Lane). The Nags Head was redeveloped as the upmarket Hugo Boss clothing store on Vicar Lane only a few years back. The photo may bring back memories to those who drank at the Nags Head. Edit added on Nov 5 2011. I've now found out that the Hugo Boss store is where the Duchess/Robin Hood pub was. The Nags Head was just a few yards further on Vicar Lane nearer to The Headrow at, or just about at, where the Betfred betting shop curently is. I'm unsure now when the Nags Head closed but it is still likely to have been only a few years back.

It depends on what planning permission can be got and conversion costs, but that could prove cheap for a property developer in a run down area that looks ready for major redeveloping. My quoted post was on June 17 2011. Passing near by today I noticed that the Victoria now has a 'Sold' sign (I could not tell if it also said 'Subject to contract' in smaller letters). I wonder if it is to remain a pub or be redeveloped? Passing by on a bus today (October 2 2011) I noticed that there is now little showing that it was a pub. Signs have gone and anything on the outside walls has been painted over. From the new lettering up I could not be sure what the building is to be. I have passed by on my walk to work this morning and the following sign has appeared on the wall facing Roundhay Road...SRI BABA VISHVAKARMA SABHAUnderneath those words there is some smaller lettering which reads PRIVATE PROPERTY.The irony was not totally lost on me. From public house to private property. And a sign of the times - in more ways than one!

Apologies if this veers slightly off topic, but I thought it better than starting a new thread with a simple question...uncle mick has posted a link on the Leeds Street Flats thread to a load of old YEP pub photos from the 70's - and very interesting it is too to look back. http://www2.leedstoday.net/Leeds%20Pubs%201970s/Anyway, to get to my point, the second photo from the bottom shows a pub named "The Seacroft Hotel" (click on the info tab).I've all my life in East Leeds and a good deal of it in Seacroft, but can't ever recall hearing of a pub by that name. The pic is dated 1974 (so I'd only have been a nipper), but looking at the photo I think the pub has been renamed The Fellmonger and is on North Parkway (the road layout doesn't look quite right but the pub building is right and is that Foxwood School visible through the trees?). Can anyone confirm this? The funny thing is I can't recall anyone ever referring to the Fellmonger by it's previous name (something that you often get for years with other pubs that have had a name change).

A niggling memory - wasn't it off North Parkway, possibly also renamed?

The Fairway is a different style Ravey, you can see it herehttp://tinyurl.com/5ummsueIt has similiarities, but it's noticeably different. I was born & bred in Seacroft and I never heard of the Seacroft Hotel before. The Fellmonger was my local in the early 80's too. The pub looks familiar, but I can't place it, unless it's the Gate on Kentmere Approach, I'll have to check that out now

Looking on Streetview, it's definitely not The Gate either. However, a bit of digging and I think I've got it - it's the "new" Lion and Lamb that stood on the junction of York Road and Barwick Road, where the Aldi now stands. The school at the rear must be Parklands. So, a different pub, but again I've never heard of it referred to as The Seacroft. So it is a "lost pub" after all!Recent pic here: http://www.queensview.co.uk/images/lion&.JPG
