There's not much of the place worth keeping up but the old office block is quite a gem and the frementing rooms behind with loading stage and cellars under would be worth it.

Some more and in one way,quietly encouraging news about the brewery from the YEP:'Tetley’s war memorial to stay putBy Jonathan Brown Published on Wednesday 15 June 2011 06:00 THE man at the helm of Carlsberg UK has assured Leeds that Tetley’s war memorial is staying put.Isaac Sheps, the company’s chief executive, said that the firm aimed to preserve the site’s memorial in reply to a letter from Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West.However, the letter also disclosed that the main reception building, where the memorial stands, will remain empty after the June 17 closure.A spokesman for Carlsberg UK said: “The war memorial is open to the public now and has always been. We see it as a vital part of the history and heritage of the whole building.Mr Mulholland sent the letter to gain assurances over the Roman marble landmark which has stood in the main reception building on the site since November 17, 1922.In the letter Dr Sheps said: “It has always been our intention to preserve those parts of the Tetley’s Brewery site which reflect this heritage.”The memorial commemorates the loss of 25 men, employed by the company, who lost their lives in the First World War, along with 236 other employees that served in the conflict from 1914 to 1918.The Carlsberg UK spokesman added: “As far as the immediate future is concerned the building will be locked up post-closure.“However, we will be maintaining the integrity of the building – cleaning it and carrying out important maintenance work such as the installation of a new boiler.”News that 114 workers are to be kept on the brewery site, in Tetley’s House, came as a relief to those fearing that the Tetley’s brand would be completely removed from the city where it has had a presence since 1822. The jobs are mostly in credit control and telesales.Mr Mulholland said: “I am pleased that Carlsberg have given assurances that the war memorial at the brewery will remain intact in its current location.“It will be a sad day for the city of Leeds when the Tetley’s brewery disappears and it is so important that some of the history, including the war memorial, is both retained and is also accessible.”The brewing of the Tetley’s famous cask ale has switched to a brewery in Marston’s in Wolverhampton.Smoothflow production has remained in Yorkshire, at the Molson Coors Brewery in Tadcaster, while the company have moved production of its lager to its Carlsberg site in Northampton.'

I took this photo in very early p.m. today (June 17 2011). It was as if the dark clouds were saying something about the end of brewing at Tetley's. The Tetley's flag was flying at half mast, which adds some poignancy to the scene.

Just one more photo that I took in very early p.m. today. I thought it may be of interest as it shows two long established sites (Tetley's Brewery and Salem Church) that are no longer used for their original purpose and so from today are both now part of the history of Leeds. The church closed many years ago (it is currently used as the headquarters of AQL telecommunications services).
