In a report about Tetley's Brewery in the YEP today (May 30 2011) it states "After the last barrels of beer filter out of the famous Hunslet brewery on June 17 it was feared more than 170 workers would lose their jobs. But Carlsberg UK has confirmed 114 workers in telesales and marketing WILL remain on the site. The future of Tetley's war memorial has also been assured as the Reception Headquarters and Tetley's House buildings will remain there for the foreseeable future, according to the firm".

The New Inn, I think. Run by the same people who run the Tarn in Yeadon, and who are real ale enthusiasts.

When I started there were 900 brewery jobs and far more pub jobs.Of the 730 who have gone most went on retirement, golden handshakes, well paid early retirement on good private pensions or just enhanced redundancy cheques like me.114 workers will keep their jobs and no doubt the remaining 56 will generally do O.K. or as best you can do when an employer moves away as is their right to do so.To me the old office block and fermenting block behind could easily remain as a working and earning monument to Tetley's the brewery and could even accomodate a small ,ocal brewery moving in.If it all dissapears it will be down to money money money and the thirst for it. C'est la vie, no great tragedy here.
