Would that be The Nag's Head ?? It was. We decided to do a pub crawl around the toughest Tetley pubs, white swan, scotsman, regent, Market etc aftr work. We'd all been issued with heavy navy blue waterproof coats at the brewery, when we walked in the Nags everyone seemed to go quiet so we had a pint and left quickly, afterwards we realised they must have thought we were coppers.I also had the idea hey and humphries had the odd pub, but not so sure as I remember "Musgrave and Sagar" having the Town Hall Tavern - didn't they bottle guinness???? I think you're right it was Musgrave and SagarBut Brindleys definitely bottled beer in Leeds - were they connected with Tetleys. I also remember Tetleys Meadow Maltings on Meadow Lane - I'm not sure when that closed.

Hi DogDuke, quote" My Grandma loved guiness but only the bottled stuff. She used to say the bottles with a little neck label "HH" was thebest - Hey and Humphries ! "Please see attached pic. I think you need to click the red X.It's a bottle of Guinness from 1970's? 80's or 90's can anyone give me a rough idea? It was in my late dad's belongings, wrapped up in an old sock, he passed away in 1997 and I've kept it ever since. It says on the label, "BOTTLED BY HEY & HUMPHRIES LTD HALIFAX"The bottle top is the crimped metal type with a gold HH inside a black swirl circle on a red background. Please see my 2nd post for a bit of a poor pic.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-13559207 Leeds MP kicking up a stink in the Commons. Maybe they ought to stop stocking it in the bars in Parliament.

It's just the usual politician riding an event to garner votes and get their name heard.Mulholland is an OK guy and my MP, but there are some very big redundancy payouts on top of an excellent pension scheme going on at Tetley's so not everyone is worried about losing their jobs by any stretch.Besides the old jobs lost at Tetleys become the new ones created as the local breweries move in.I have to say I support his idea of a boycott, but come on Greg, extend it to all the companies that mass produce formula beers and include Tetleys itself, Carling, Fosters, any brand of "smooth" and all that rubbish.Leeds has the skills to produce excellent local crafted beers and lagers within it's own boundaries to replace all the imported drivel.

In the above article posted by Riponian, the Carlsberg spokesman is quoted as saying, "We unfortunately live at a time when the beer market is facing the perfect storm of falling consumption, increasing costs and rising tax."Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that the real ale sector is the only part of the market that is showing growth?

Yes Si, it seems whilst the big boys are struggling, those producing the real stuff are thriving it seems. We'll see if the Yorkshire Squares at Tetleys are sold and just who buys them rather than them being just smashed and carted off as filling.

I've just seen a little bit of a 'The Sweeney' episode on ITV4. Though it's nothing really to do with the thread about Tetley's to close I found it amusing to see that "Tetley's sponsors Real Men's TV on ITV4". Real Men perhaps, but Real Ale no!

They used to have slates with brass fittings, then switched to stainless but brought a couple of slates back in later years for show I think. When the fermenting head was at it's higest pumping out CO2 if you popped your head over the side it knocked you back when the Co2 blanket hit you.Under the fermenting vessels slugs would live as they adore beer, big long fat drunk ones!
