My mum used to work at Associated Dairies (as it was in the 70s) so I might be able to ask her about it when I'm over this weekend if anyone has any questions. As far as old cinemas go, the Star cinema on York Rd is now a gym, as people probably know. Downstairs is currently closed after the occupants did a midnight flit, but upstairs is used as a martial arts gym where I train. There's some old-ish photos of how it looks at http://www.badcompany.co.uk/article.asp?newsid=66. The balcony is still there and so is the projection box, but this is inaccessible while the downstairs is closed. The roof was in pretty poor condition but it's since been made weathertight. I should be able to get some photos of the upstairs/balcony area as it is now when I'm down next week if people are interested.

That would be great, it's a big building and interesting to see how it retains it's old features. A bit like the one at the bottom of Torre Road (was it the Regal?) that is now Al Murad - if you go upstairs and look over you can see what was the stage and it even has the numbers on the wall from when it was a bingo hall!Anyhow, if you do get the pics better put them on another thread or we'll get told off!

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Iworked there for a short time in 1992 after I left the Royal Navy. The bottling plant was old and staffed mainly by asians. I was running some cables for CCTV around the side of the building when i drilled through a wall and fed what felt like 200' of cable through it.After opening the door to go inside I found it was a prayer room and I was now facing a lot of folk looking at me , raising up from their mat's.....

Hi! Just writing some memories down for my 92 year old Grandpa and he was telling me about his Mum and that just before he was born his Mum's family owned Craven Dairies in the 1900's and had for a very long time (his mum's family name is Craven) - the sisters used to work at a dairy shop in Chapel Alerton that was associated with the farm. They had another shop at Otley also. Eventually they sold the farm and moved to Roundhay. I was just trying to see if I could find any info on the net or pictures of the farm to see what had happened to it and I found this thread. His Mum's name was Ann. He has pictures of his Grandma Craven. If anyone has or knows where I can find pictures or more info that would be great. It's a long shot as I know it was a really long time ago! Thank you!!!

There's some information about Woodhouse Farm, once owned by Craven Dairies, on the Barwick in Elmet history site:http://www.barwickinelmethistoricalsoci ... 628.htmlIt also gives the name of some other properties owned by the firm.
