JAPA. This company occupied Laneside Mills, off Elland Road between Morley and Churwell. The produced paper bags, envelopes etc. That's a clue to what their title meant. Any guesses?

William Potts, Clockmakers, Bankfield Terrace, Burley, Leeds.Windows now bricked up, its was always good to stop and have look at the workshop as the street level is higher than the shop floor. The Haddon Hall picture used to adjoin to the Potts workshop.Must be a recent photo, last time I visited Burley the picture house was still standing ,but in a bad wayI I can remember going to the Sat morning shows there, but man is that a long time ago.Growing up in the Stanmore's I use to past this building more times than I can think.Pre-teens , going down to the Kirkstall rd baths ,trunks rolled up in a threadbare towel. Or going down to Steads toy/joke shop.Teens- drinking at the Haddan Hall, playing for Burley Utd who where based there. Darts team.Grown up , Burly Con club ,Snooker and cheap beer.http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/186585 ... FULLCheers Yorkie

The father of a good friend of mine was Potts' General Manager. A great many church and public (tower) clocks in this region and beyond were made by Potts - I would imagine nearly every one in Leeds & District - and still maintained by Smiths after very many years of reliable service.

Sorry, got the quote bit mixed up in that last post. I'm responsible for the bit starting "William Potts was taken over by Smiths of Derby......"Hope this explanation makes a bit more sense of things.
