Late plane landing

1.30 am and something's just landed. I thought there were restrictions?

Many years ago, I was an active member of the group opposed to the extension of the runway at LBIA, then called Yeadon Airport by locals. (We called ourselves L.A.C.A.N. but I cant for the life of me remember what the letters stood for!) One of our actions was to phone the airport when flights landed or took off after 11.00p.m. as that was when flying was meant to stop.Times change, but when the runway extension went ahead, we were assured that there would be no night flying. It would be interesting to find out what the situation is today.

As far as I can recall Dalehelms it stood for "Leeds Airport Campaign for the Abatement of Noise." I live in Queenswood Drive and there is definitely a fair bit of flying now regularly after 11.00pm - I suppose I'm lucky as they don't bother me at all, but there again I've no doubt they would if I was anywhere nearer the runway.

Actually booked on a flight withJet2 from Lanzarotty to land at o200 Monday morning, 16yh May and this being a scheduled weekly flight.

I come back from Cyprus on a scheduled weekly Jet2 flight due in at 00.55am Mon. Maybe it was that flight that was delayed.

When the runway was extended, weren't the restrictions on the flying hours relaxed and the airport became operational 24 hours a day (albeit only technically as next to nothing flew out of there overnight for ages).Certainly the YEP has a piece today listing all the extra flights that are being added over the summer and the tour operators tend to use 24 hour airports as it removes the risk of having planes stranded on the ground after the airport closes, or having expensive redirections if the flight is late.That said, I had to pick a relative up from a flight that got in at about 10pm last year and all the shops / cafes / bar, etc were already closed when we got there.

According to the LBIA website, there's a Ryanair flight from Malaga expected at 23.55 tonight. I think the 23.00 restriction died the death quite a while ago. From where I live in Bradford I hear low planes at all sorts of hours. Personally, I don't mind - I like the convenience of the much wider choice of destinations.

Do I recall correctly that anyone who wished to around the airport could be double glazed at its expense? 70s I think?

That's quite right Geordie and many hundreds in the Cookridge and Tinshill vicinities took advantage of the offer - they could also have their houses double glazed at the same time. Sorry about that Geordie, just a bit of mischief, no harm intended. Seriously, yes, that offer was made and accepted widely.
