More specifically, most of Cookridge was part of th formerly famous, Moseley wood, which was largely destroyed in the late 1950's, though some pockets such as Black wood (which was where Carr Bridge Drive now stands) remained until the late 1960's. I wish I had seen the full woodland, the Black Woods part was lovely, sheer vandalism to destroy it.The small farm that was on the edge of it, that now is covered by the Dale Parks estate had some fine tree specimens on it, one can only speculate at how it must have looked.I doubt that this sort of wanton destruction would be allowed today.

When the first hundred or so houses were built at the northern end of Green Lane it suddenly became a "Village". What I know of Cookridge where I live is that it was of course a large wood. In that wood was the woodsmans cottage and the gamekeepers cottage. Check google earth and Tinshill Road and you can spot those two, and lovely they are. Also you can see the smithy built end on to otley old road. Looking for a Smithy at junction of Tinshill Road and Otley old road but can only see modern housing.Am i looking in the wrong place?

Could it be this building, which is on Cookridge Lane (an extension of Otley Old Road)? It bridges a gap between Smithy Lane and Cookridge Lane.http://local.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=5 ... 76,,0,2.74

I think I exhausted my knowledge of Leeds on earlier threads so don't have much to contribute these days, apart from the odd map query
