There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I'll try not to bore with my transport hobby/career, but in the early 1960s I was once travelling on a West Riding Guy Arab bus with a full load one evening - the Arabs were very powerful double deckers but on that occasion it was struggling badly towards the summit and the driver had to drop down into first gear - a very difficult gearchange on such models - and he did it magnificently to our delight. In more recent times I've driven on those routes myself , 163 -166 nicknamed the "Valium route" because of the tight timetable, and the modern buses sail up the hill effortlessly with their fully automatic gearboxes - how times have changed.

Leeds Road at the other side of Cross Hills is a steep one too. Yes indeed slw, that one is very steep too, but without a sharp bend and not as long as Butt Hill.
