Just heard, that Templenewsome is on fire, the home farm bit not the estate, just hope the animals are ok

In a report in the YEP website today it states of the fire last night-The fire took hold at around 7pm and fire crews were still on the scene this morning as they fought to stop the flames spreading to adjoining farm buildings...Last night they separated around 40 pregnant cows which were being housed in a nearby building...Thanks to the quick actions or firefighters, no animals are understood to have been harmed and the cows were safely relocated to the farmyard as the fire was contained...Speaking to the YEP last night, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Group Manager Richard Veti, who was in charge of tackling the incident, told the YEP: "We managed to get all the cows out as we tried to save that building they were being housed in. Unfortunately the hay barn and its contents are lost"...The fire is believed to be under control today.

I take it that both those statements were made very soon after midnight for them to be both true and it it was in a Newspaper that was on the shelves at 6.00am Note - Edited as I just realised Leodian had mentioned it was on the website although that being the case surely "believed" should have been replaced with something more concrete

It seemed to be a very large fire watching the video on the YEP site and on a local TV program. Thankfully it seems to have been contained to the hay barn and no livestock has apparently been killed or injured. It looks like it was close to having been a lot worse.

Ye sorry Leodian its defitnitely more important that nobody and no animal came to harm but after that getting a dig in at the Yorkshire pre dawn post............

It's always fun getting a dig at the as you so well say "pre dawn post". No doubt someday an armageddon type meteor will be suddenly spotted and about to blow up the Earth the next day, but the YEP edition printed the day of the detection but dated the next day will have no mention!

The kids and I went for a walk round after school today (well Monday). The farm will be closed all week, the remains of the barn was still smoking and a couple of appliances were still on site at 4.30pm

Was it part of the working farm or the museam bit? The great barn which houses exhibits is hundreds of years old and would be a terrible loss.

The hay barn at the side nearest the car park, so not the oldest part of the farm, thank goodness.
