My dad used to work at Rank on Harehills Lane, I think he used to make sights for tanks (but I maybe wrong). The building was knocked down and I think it is a mosque now (?) I will ask him for more info on the air raid siren and the building when he returns from his jollies!Come to think of it, Rank was knocked down, and so the school he went to in Harehills and the building where he used to work in Lower Wortley ! He seems to be leaving a trail of destruction........

Yes I certainly remember the building as being Rank Optical and can picture the main doors set at an angle to Harehills Lane with the siren on the canopy/roof above.A regular trip on Sundays was to my Great Aunts' in Berkley Terrace for tea. Only 5 or 6 at the time, but was amazed at the size of the Crown factory and remember never seeing smoke coming from that tall black chimney - but then, Sunday in those days was Sunday - with little or nothing working that didn't have to!
