Trouble is that would be the stand pie version of Russian Roulette - you might get the finest stand pie you've ever tasted, or you might get something that you wouldn't feed to a hungry dog.If you can get to Otley there is little that beats a pie from Weegmans.Andrew Jones pies are very good (from 'uddersfield I think) - I've seen them for sale in a number of shops / butchers, but I couldn't name anywhere in the city centre (but at least you could look out for the name).

My father would order a big one for Christmas and I would go queue up on Christmas Eve to collect it from the shop. I think they closed after a food poisoning outbreak, or am I imagining that? You are right grumpybloke they used to be on Kirkstal Road on the other side from were McDonalds is now.The queue was massive for Christmas stand pies and yes it was a food poisoning outbreak that closed them down such a shame it must have been a bad batch of meat that caused the outbreak. I used to know someone who called there as a rep for Hobart he allways said the place was spotless the prep room and all the mincers were the best you could buy but close them down it did.

The place for stand pies in Morley was Greens. And you had to order one to get one at Christmas, they used to queue out of the door and up Queen Street. At the time I lived at West Ardsley and got into Morley to pick up my ordered pie only to be told they'd sold out and I'd have to come back later in the day - not possible - I argued with the manager but he was adamant. So I did without. Never went there again. Attempted making my own, but they were dismal failures. However by this time I was working in Cas and used to buy one from Green Lane Bakery in Fev - and they were excellent. Long gone now. So have Greens in Morley for that matter, from four shops they shrunk to one market stall which is now gone. TBH I reckon they got complacent. There's a Wilsons in Morley now, so we're ok.
